Background information and writing guidelines

Social Work Research Blog was created to make social work research and research discussions visible and understandable to wider audiences. The blog is supported by Sosnet network. Blog posts may discuss empirical research in social work, theoretical questions, or combine practice and theory. Blog posts may also be book reviews.

You can submit your text for publication by contacting the blog’s editors (see the Yhteystiedot tab).

We accept articles in Finnish, Swedish, or English.

Please notice the following guidelines when writing for the blog:

  1. Choose a theme that is particularly interesting, important, or topical in the field of social work research, of your area of expertise, or concerns a research result or discussion that you want to present.
  2. Introduce the reader to the topic, examine the phenomenon from various angles, and convince the reader of your arguments. Maintain a common thread. Finally, present clear conclusions or summarise the main message of your blog post.
  3. Write in a conversational, accessible, but precise style. Use a clear title and write concisely.
  4. Avoid scientific jargon. Define and explain the scientific concepts you use.
  5. Keep your writing to a maximum of 800 words. Paragraphs should not be longer than eight lines.
  6. If you wish, add a few questions for readers at the end. This will encourage readers to comment and participate in the discussion.
  7. Use the Chicago Notes and Bibliography style for referencing. You can also refer to previous publications for examples of how to cite references.
  8. Proofread your text carefully before submitting it to the editors.
